about

Lark Electric Company traces its roots back to 1963 when it was established by the dynamic duo of Dan Fulkerson and Walter Newcom. Their shared vision was simple yet ambitious: to deliver unparalleled service at an extraordinary rate. Following a few years of successful collaboration, the partnership evolved, leading to the acquisition of stocks by Dan Fulkerson and his sons, Michael Fulkerson and Richard Fulkerson, along with investor Dick Murphy. Eventually, Dick Murphy’s shares were acquired by Michael Fulkerson, and the company officially transitioned into Lark Electric Company Incorporated.

Under the banner of Lark Electric Company, Inc, the Fulkerson family, comprising Dan, Richard, Michael, Danny, and Mark, experienced rapid growth. From a humble office on West 7th Street in Owensboro, Kentucky, they expanded into a lighting fixture showroom and an insulation company. With their initial office becoming too small for their flourishing business, Lark Electric Company, Inc acquired multiple buildings, spanning almost an entire city block on West 2nd Street. Over the years, the company continued to thrive, prompting a move to a spacious office on West 3rd Street.

In October 2020, Lark Electric Company, Inc underwent a transformation. Ross Hyland acquired the company, leading to its re-establishment as Lark Electric, LLC. Today, Lark Electric, LLC stands as a prominent player in commercial, industrial and institutional electrical services industry, serving clients across Kentucky, Indiana, Tennessee and Ohio. Their expertise encompasses design-build, plan spec, and low voltage construction, security and directional drilling. Responding to remarkable growth, Ross Hyland relocated the company to a sizable operations facility at 215 East 18th Street in Owensboro, Ky, enabling Lark Electric to expand its service offerings and foster further growth.

In September 2022, Lark Electric achieved another milestone by successfully acquiring Patterson-Westbrook Electrical Contractors Inc in Bowling Green, Kentucky. This strategic move enhances Lark Electric’s ability to support existing clients and cultivate new relationships in Western Kentucky. Patterson-Westbrook, with over 35 years of service in Bowling Green, specializes in commercial and industrial projects, bringing a wealth of expertise and reliability to the Lark Electric family.

In September 2024, Lark Electric proudly acquired May Electric, a renowned industrial and controls electrical contractor based in Owensboro, Kentucky. Established in 1959, May Electric has long held a leading position in Western Kentucky’s industrial electrical contracting market. With decades of experience and a reputation for excellence, May Electric is known for its unwavering commitment to delivering top-tier services in the field.

May Electric’s team of highly skilled professionals has contributed to some of the region’s most complex and large-scale industrial projects. Their expertise extends to their dedicated industrial controls division, which has designed, built, and maintained major manufacturing facilities, including those for industry giants like Cargill.

This acquisition strengthens Lark Electric’s capabilities and reach, allowing us to better serve our customers across a wider range of industrial and commercial sectors. Additionally, the 19,000-square-foot May Electric facility will become a new electrical training center, with a focus on distribution and controls. This center will serve as a hub for developing the next generation of commercial and industrial electricians, furthering our commitment to excellence in the industry.

Even after six decades, Lark Electric, LLC remains rooted in its founding principle: exceptional service at an exceptional rate. Emphasizing the three C’s – Capability, Cost, and Communication – Lark Electric, LLC boasts unmatched capabilities, ensuring flawless execution of projects of all sizes.
